Kristy Taylor Attends the Love of Literacy Luncheon on Behalf of Kid Medic

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to represent, Kid Medic, at the the Love of Literacy Luncheon sponsored by the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County.  The luncheon has been held annually for the past several years, and it is a great way to help raise money for such an awesome cause!

Luncheon attendees had the opportunity to hear directly from the coalition's founder and members of the board of directors regarding the future of the organization.
Currently money is being raised to help build a permanent infrastructure within Palm Beach County to run programs sponsored by the organization and to help train more volunteers.

Attendees also had the pleasure of listening to guest speaker, Curtis Aikens, one of the original stars of the Food Network, who shared his inspiring story.  Although well known for his cooking abilities and as a Food Network star, Mr. Aikens did not learn to read until the age of 26.  Currently, 52 years old, Mr. Aikens recently graduated with his bachelor's degree and is currently pursing his master's.  He stated that once finished, he would like to obtain a doctorate degree in education and spend the remainder of his life speaking to children around the country about literacy.

While in attendance, I also had the opportunity to meet with board member, Mrs. Lourdes Ramos, and other fellow coalition supporters Mr. Josh Johnston, Mrs. Deborah Howell, and Mrs. Woody Gardner.  Mrs. Ramos and I had a great discussion regarding volunteer opportunities for my students at Palm Beach State College in Belle Glade, FL as well as future plans for Kid Medic's approach to tackling literacy issues (More to come!).  For more information about the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, log on to:  http://www.literacypbc.org/.

The Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County was started in 1989 and provides services to over 110 sites throughout the Palm Beach County area.   The coalition has 11 direct service programs that serves individuals from infancy through adulthood.  The coalition's programs are primarily staffed with volunteers from around the community and students participating in the Americorps program.  Volunteers participate in a variety of activities from serving on the board of directors, working directly with students in the classroom, tutoring adult learners and children, and completing clerical tasks.  For more information about the Literacy Coalition of Palm Beach County, log on to:  http://www.literacypbc.org/.

Let's Kick this Party Off With a Bang! Online Book Launch Party Starts Monday, April 4-April 10, 2011

Wow, can you believe that the official release date is almost here for my first children's book: Mrs. Garcia's Class Visits the Hospital and official launch of my company, Kid Medic!  I am soooooooo excited!  I look forward to celebrating this day with all of my family and friends.  Thank you so much for stopping by.

Since everyone is spread out all across the country, I thought what better way to do this than having an online launch party!

The official party kicks off on Monday, April 4, 2011 and we'll keep the neighbors awake all week long until the party winds up Sunday, April 10. Tell your family. Tell your friends because this will be the place to be.

Nothing you can imagine doing all week could possibly be more interesting and fun than attending this party to celebrate the release of Mrs. Garcia's Class Visits the Hospital, and launching of Kid Medic, L.L.C.!  There'll be talking, and reading, and drawing, and . . . more talking. And exciting prizes.

Ask me questions about my new book and company, how to get a children's book published, what it's like to go through the self publishing process, to start your own business and more! And did I mention, you'll also get the chance to win a few prizes?

Well, the adventure is just about to begin when the party kicks off on Monday, April 4! So mark your calendars, scour your closet for your best pair of pajamas (yes, you can wear pj's to this party!), and get ready to party it up!   Until then, feel free to visit the Kid Medic website at http://www.kidmedic.com/ for more information about the company and the book.
